Easy-to-do apple strudel
Strudel is a rustic and genuine cake, very good even if is low-fat compared to other traditional cakes. We propose a quick and easy-to-do version without cinnamon (not everyone loves this spice) and a shell of phyllo dough. The result is astonishing: only 139 calories per serving of apple strudel! Can you believe it?

- 60g (2.1 ounces) ready-to-bake phyllo dough (2 sheets)
- 700g (1 1/2 pound) apples
- 160g (5.6 ounces) orange jam
- 20g (3/4 ounce) sliced almonds
- 20g (3/4 ounce) shelled walnuts
- 1 quail egg
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

Apple strudel recipe
Preparation
- - Peel the apples. Remove their core.
Cut the apples into slices and then into pieces. - - Put the apples in a bowl.
- - Add the jam, walnuts and almonds.
- - Stir accurately, with delicacy.
- - Let your mixture rest for 30 minutes.
- - 10 minutes before assembling the strudel remove the phyllo dough from the refrigerator.
- - Preheat the oven to 350°C.
- - Line a baking pan with baking paper.
- - Arrange a first sheet of phyllo dough.
Grease the sheet with the tablespoon of olive oil and cover with the second sheet.
Spoon the apple mixture on the center of the rectangle. - - Roll the two sheets around the apple mixture.
- - Beat the quail egg and brush it on the surface.
Cooking
- - Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the surface is golden.
- - Shortly before the end of cooking you will notice that an internal fluid, made by the apples in cooking, will be released.
Scoop it up and sprinkle the surface of the strudel with this fluid. - - Repeat several times even when you remove the strudel from the oven.
Just before serving
- - Let the strudel cool before serving.
- - But remember the strudel is tasty even warm.
Tips and menu planning
- - Have you seen you can make a tasty cake even without too many calories and fat?
- - We followed the suggestions on the package of phyllo dough and used only two sheets. But if you prefer a thicker shell use four sheets (120g - 4 1/4 ounces). In this case the calories increase little: 159 per serving. And the other values increase very little.
- - We have used our orange marmalade, flavored with rum that we typically do with a little sugar. If you purchase an industrial product choose a jam with no added sugar. Excellent the jam without preservatives and dyes. The best solution for a cake for your children.
- - If you use a normal jam and prepare the dessert for the adults, add a tablespoon of rum or the aromatic liqueur that you prefer.
- - Excellent in this strudel the bitter orange marmalade.
- - Keep a box of quail eggs at home. It enbles you to split the eggs. In fact it takes 5 quail eggs for a hen's egg. And this choice greatly reduces the cholesterol content. Excellent solution for those who must pay attention to cholesterol and triglycerides.
